Holidays & Times of the Year That Marketers Should Be Aware Of

September 7, 2009

Anyone in marketing (whether online or offline) should be aware of certain times of the year and holidays that are excellent for marketers. Quite often, a lot of people are not at work during these holidays because of a long weekend and because they’re not at work they are spending more money buying stuff – which is great for us. During these times you need to be aware that overall internet traffic may be down (because everyone is traveling, outside, or doing things other than being on the computer) and you need to deliver your message as far before the holiday, date, or time of year as you possibly can.

How To Track Exactly What People Are Clicking On Your Website

September 7, 2009

One of the great things about marketing on the internet is the ability to track what your site or blog visitors are doing. With recent technologies and companies, you can even track exactly what each of the visitors to your website is clicking on – whether it’s links, images, buttons, whatever it is – you can track it.

With Google Analytics, you can see what links people are clicking on, however, it’s a very basic and rudimentary overview of how they’re interacting on your site. Recently, I came across a company called ClickTale and took their product for a spin. What ClickTale allows you to do is see exactly where (and what) the visitors to your website are clicking on – which is awesome for ANYONE with a website or blog.

One of an internet marketer’s best friends is Google AdWords’ Keyword Tool. While the Keyword Tool itself seems simple and straightforward, there are actually a number of features and components that are often overlooked.

The Difference Between Leaders and Managers

September 6, 2009

In many businesses and organizations there are two distinct classes of people – leaders and managers. Quite often these two terms are used interchangeably, however, these two types could not be further apart from each other. Often those that aspire to managerial positions or status, do so for the perceived power that they have over other people. While at times there is a benefit to having a manager over a leader – more often than not you want to be a leader.

I am highly opposed to manager mentality and structure as I believe it creates difficult work environments. I believe people can be happier and more productive under a true leader.

Why PageRank Isn’t That Important

September 6, 2009

If you are trying to build or promote a website you have no doubt come across forums, articles, and websites that are always talking about PageRank (PR). PageRank is Google’s way of determining how important a website, blog or page is compared to others on the internet.

I know of people who are constantly working to better their PageRank and are always trying to find ways to improve it or get theirs higher. Anytime Google updates PageRank you will see a flurry of news and it has the web community in a buzz when they updated. While it’s a good indicator to see how you’re faring with Google, I have seen plenty of sites that have a PageRank of 0 or 1 make a lot more money and become a lot more successful than sites that have a PageRank of 5, 6, 7, or 8.

The 4 P’s of Marketing & the Marketing Mix

September 5, 2009

Going back to basics and one of the fundamental principles of marketing is the marketing mix, or the 4 p’s of marketing. In college or business classes this is one of the first topics covered and lays the groundwork for many future classes. While there have been many different variations and modifications to these principles – they still remain a cornerstone and the foundation for modern marketing.

The 4 P’s of marketing (also known as the “marketing mix”) are used to position a company, product, or idea into our (the consumer’s) minds. As marketers, our objectives are to arrange these components so they are each as efficient and effective as possible.

Blog Income Report Roundup – August 2009

September 3, 2009

Well, it seems as though August was a little bit tougher month for those making money online. The majority of this month’s posting were a decline over July’s Blog Income Reports. I think typically August is a little slower month overall, so the results aren’t too surprising.

What is interesting is the different ways that people are monetizing their blogs and the differences in how much revenue per visitor each manages to get. Those that cover broad topics tend to have lower revenue per visitor, while those that angle with a focus on products tend to do better.
