For affiliates located in Missouri (like me) you need to keep a close eye on the possible attempt to pass an affiliate advertising tax similar to ones that have been attempted in North Carolina and other states. A move like this would be HUGELY detrimental to many of us who work within the affiliate industry. If you haven’t gotten the chance, head on over and check out these couple of articles:
MGEcom suggests the following proactive measures. Again, if anything like this were to pass, it would have huge negative implications on business:
- Contact your local representatives in both the House and Senate
- Work closely with the Performance Marketing Alliance
- Get the word out on Facebook and Twitter. Create a new hash tag specifically for your state fight. In North Carolina, we used #ncaffiliatetax.
- Start an online petition against the tax. There are many free resources to do this, such as PetitionSpot.com.
- Attack this possible legislation from every conceivable angle until you discover what seems to resonate the most with Legislators. Lost revenue, lost jobs, the negative impact on you personally, people moving or closing their businesses, misconceptions about expected new tax receipts, etc. are all good points to make.

You should put the twitter code on this post so people can twit it easier. This is disappointing.
Josh, it’s terribly disappointing if they’re trying to go after this. Taking an example from what they used in North Carolina, we should use #moaffiliatetax. So get the word out, and let’s hope and work toward this not going anywhere.
I agree!
