Do what you enjoy
One of life’s greatest lessons it to enjoy what you do. You only live once, and to ensure happiness, you need to get as much pleasure and satisfaction out of what you do every day. While this is true in all facets of your life, it is most prevalent in what you choose to do for your job or career.
Too hot or too cold? Not knowing may cost you business
Comfortable room temperature is a personal opinion. However, if your place of business is not in the “comfort” range for the majority of your customers, you could actually be losing business.
Each one of us has our own thresholds for what we consider hot and cold. Something that is burning up to me may be freezing to you and vice versa. You can, however, at least accommodate the majority of the customers that visit your store or office.
The color of the bikeshed
“The color of the bikeshed” is best defined by Wikipedia as:
“a proverbial phrase referring to the apparent ease with which one can get agreement on building a large and complex project (such as a billion-dollar atomic reactor) compared to the difficulty of reaching consensus on building something conceptually simple — because everyone involved actually has an opinion and wants to add it.”
This problem occurs around us everyday. Projects, solutions and concepts that we are unfamiliar with or don’t understand we tend to assume that they are correct and accurate because of our lack of our knowledge and understanding about the topic. However, we tend to trivialize and freely give opinions on some of the simplest solutions and projects that usually require little or no input.
The importance of an e-mail signature
An often overlooked, but extremely important part of an e-mail is the signature block. Your e-mail signature should be the final section of each e-mail that you send. It acts as an information and marketing block that provides pertinent and important information about you or your company to anyone that corresponds with you via e-mail.
There are several aspects that you should be aware of when creating your e-mail signature that we’re going to look at.
Why personal days are a great idea
There are thousands of reasons why employees and co-workers miss work. Whether they are taking a vacation, they’re sick, children, or any of a number of other reasons. To address some of this most companies have built into their business structure specific times that employees are allowed to be absent from work. Typically you will see that businesses allow employees something along the following lines:
- “x” weeks of vacation
- “x” amount of sick days
- and they are closed on a number of national holidays (Christmas, New Year’s, etc.)
However, there are many times when someone needs to be absent from work for various reasons not mentioned above. I believe that allocating a number of “Personal Days” is a great idea for any company.
